Bill C-6 Becomes Law, Path to Citizenship Made Easy for New Immigrants

At a recent press conference in Toronto, Canada's immigration minister Ahmed Hussen wants all permanent residents to become citizens of Canada. This process of becoming citizen has become simpler and faster for the immigrants of the country.

The Bill C-6 has made many things simpler, and among them is the reduction of the time required to become eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship. This bill has finally received the Royal assent.

This new law will benefit thousands of immigrants and their families. It should, however, be noted here that many of the measures listed in this new law will not become effective till later this year or early 2018.

Some of the measures in the act will come into force immediately.

Changes that are Immediately Effective

Changes that have come into force from June 19th are:

1.      Dual Citizens living in Canada who are convicted of spying, treason and terrorism offences, will face the Canadian justice system, just like any other Canadian citizen who breaks the law.
2.      Applicants are no longer required to intend to live in Canada once they have been granted the citizenship. This will provide flexibility to Canadian who want to live outside due to work and other requirements.
3.      Minors can also apply for Canadian citizenship without a parent, as the requirement for age has been removed as per subsection 5(1).
4.      Individuals who are serving conditional sentence will not be given citizenship or will be allowed to take oath of citizenship. This time spent by them will not be counted towards their physical presence in the country
5.      Statelessness has been added as a stand-alone ground that can be considered for a discretionary grant of citizenship.
6.      The new citizenship act now includes consideration to accommodate the requirement of disabled person who apply for citizenship.

Changes that will be effective from Early 2018:

1.      The Federal court will make all the decisions in case of revocations, unless a request has been made by an individual that decision be taken by a minister.
2.      Citizenship officers have the full authority to seize suspected fraudulent or fraudulent documents that are provided as per the citizenship act.

A Brief Overview of Future Express Entry Draws

The Express Entry draws that have taken place in the recent months have shown a consistent trend. The first thing to notice here is that they have happened after every two weeks and that on Wednesday morning.

Looking at the past trend, candidates in the Express Entry pool might have expected another draw to happen on June 14th, 2017, as the last draw happened on May 31st, 2017.

Till the time of writing this article, no such draw had taken place. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has given an explanation for the delay in the Express Entry draw and candidates in the pool will encouraged to hear it.

IRCC made further improvements in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) on June 6th, 2017. It was announced that additional point will be given to candidates in the Express Entry pool who have a sibling in Canada, and also for candidates who have proficiency in French language.

At the time of making these changes, it was announced by IRCC that the CRS points scored by all the candidates in the pool will be updated automatically as per the new changes and before the next round of Express Entry draw takes place. This can take up to two weeks.

It is because of this reason there has been some delay in the Express Entry draw this time, as the CRS points of all the candidates are being updated in the pool. Candidates who are sure that their CRS points will increase as a result of the June 5 change, will have a better chance of being picked up in the next Express Entry draw.

Furthermore, it should be noted here that the recent changes that have taken place on June 6th, has not effected negatively any candidate that is there in the Express Entry pool.

It has been confirmed by IRCC that the profiles of candidates will be updated automatically that are already entered in the pool. In case a candidates has not disclosed the he or she has a sibling in Canada, or the results of a recognized French test, they are being encouraged to update their information so as to receive the additional points.

It is expected that the next Express Entry draw will happen anytime soon, as and when the update of all profiles has been completed by the IRCC.

Global Skills Strategy Launched by the Government of Canada

Companies in Canada will be able to create new jobs only when they are able to thrive and grow. The new Global Skills strategy from the Government of Canada will enable employers to use a faster and more predictable process to attract talent from across the globe. It will also allow to create more middle-class jobs and boost the economic growth in turn.

According to the announcement made by Ahmed Hussen, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister, Navdeep Bains (Innovation, Science and Economic Development Minister) and Rodger Cuzner (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour), the Global Skills Strategy will benefit all the highly-skilled workers from across the globe.

Some of the key elements of this strategy include the four pillars, highly-skilled workers that are coming on a temporary basis to Canada will be able to benefit from the two-week period for processing the application for granting the work permit. As and when required study permits for dependants and open work permits for spouses will also be processed within a period of two weeks time.

Canada Wants to Hire Specialized Foreign Talent, Launches a New Visa Program

Canadian innovation organizations are welcome another government plan for procuring remote ability with open arms – and mindful confidence.

The Canadian government's worldwide aptitudes visa program – part of its Global Skills Strategy – authoritatively opens for business June 12. The $7.8-million, 24-month test case program is intended to permit high-development firms to get universal ability inside two weeks, as opposed to up to a year, which is to what extent it now takes.

"What organizations have let us know is that, if it's a truly long process, they lose that chance to contract that individual," government Labor Minister Patty Hajdu disclosed to The Globe and Mail.

Vancouver tech firm Unbounce knows the procedure great. "There have been a few events at Unbounce in which we've met talented designers anxious to move to Canada and work for our group, just to hold up six months or longer with no indication of a visa," said Sascha Williams, the organization's head working officer. By and large, the applicant couldn't bear to sit tight and started searching for work somewhere else.

However, given the political atmosphere in the United States and Canada's notoriety for good personal satisfaction, it's maybe never been simpler to convince these gifted people – some of whom are among a modest bunch of individuals on the planet with those desired abilities – to come to Canada.

"The world is getting a whole lot littler, and to enable Canada to contend, we have to open our ways to the best and the brightest, and enable Canadian business to get the best individual for the position," said Shoshana Green, accomplice at Toronto movement law office Green and Spiegel LLP.

Ms. Green has worked with various quickly developing Canadian firms hoping to import remote ability, just to come up against a cumbersome bureaucratic migration prepare that relied on demonstrating both that nobody else in Canada could carry out the occupation, and that the Canadian economy would profit by that outside contract's nearness. Those two components together made noteworthy slacks all the while, Ms. Green said. "Organizations need to know [quickly]: Can I acquire this individual or would I be able to not?"
