The Number of Temporary Foreign Workers Becoming Permanent Resident of Canada has Increased

Latest reports released by Statistics Canada have indicated that there has been an increase in the number of foreign workers working in Canada who have obtained the permanent resident status in the period between 1990 to 2014.

it is highly likely that this trend would have continued in the years after 2014. This trend is worth noticing as most of the immigration programs in Canada give value to work experience obtained in Canada.

Nearly 9% of temporary foreign workers who had obtained the first work permit of Canada between 1995 and 1999 have obtained their permanent residency of Canada within the five years period. This rate has increased to 13% during the period between 2000 to 2004 and there was a further increase of 21% in the years between 2005 to 2009.

the two main programs for foreign workers are: the International Mobility Program (IMP) and the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP).

The study further reveals that the provincial and federal government of Canada have come out with numerous programs that give the liberty to foreign workers to become permanent resident of Canada.

The Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) of Canada that are run by various territories and provinces nominate individuals who are eligible and have the right credentials as per the requirement of a particular territory or province.

This is not all, in 2008 a new immigration program was introduced by Canada in the form of the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). This program enables foreign workers to settle permanently in Canada provided they fulfill certain eligibility criteria.

The other two immigration programs include the Federal Skilled Trades Class and the Federal Skilled Worker Class. It was in 2015 that the Express Entry immigration system was brought into force and there has been no study conducted on this system till now.

However, the latest report explicitly mentions about the Express Entry immigration system and highlights the need for arranged job offers, proficiency in French or English and Canadian experience. This is something which benefits enormously all the foreign workers who are working in Canada temporarily.
